Petrol, Diesel Supply Stabilized with Government Initiatives, Says PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: The government has assured that the nation's petrol and diesel supply is more stable following proactive measures, particularly under the management of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, highlighted several strategies that have been employed to bolster the country's fuel supply security.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that reducing RON95 consumption, tightening enforcement to curb diesel leakages and smuggling, and importing fuel supplies have played a crucial role in stabilizing the supply. The Prime Minister emphasized that the supply situation is significantly improved compared to two months ago, addressing concerns about fuel availability that were previously reported to be sufficient only until June.

The Prime Minister also discussed the impact of the West Asia crisis on global economic conditions, noting that fuel supply issues were a primary topic at the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings. Anwar reported that ASEAN countries have engaged in collective efforts to mitigate supply shortages and alleviate cost pressures on essential commodities such as food, fertilizer, and transportation.

Anwar noted that ASEAN has adopted measures to boost production, and member countries with surplus supplies have committed to prioritizing the region. He also expressed support for regional projects, such as the ASEAN Power Grid, which aim to address alternative energy needs.

Leading the Malaysian delegation to the summit, Anwar is accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and key ministers, including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. As of January 1, 2026, the Philippines has assumed the ASEAN chairmanship from Malaysia under the theme 'Navigating Our Future, Together,' focusing on Peace and Security, Prosperity Corridors, and People Empowerment.
