Petra Increases NUR@PETRA 2026 Funding to RM47 Million

Accra:The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has increased the allocation for the domestic category of the Nikmat Untuk Rakyat (NUR@PETRA) 2026 program by RM15 million, bringing the total to RM47 million. This enhancement allows for 235,000 rebates on energy-efficient electrical appliances.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, The additional funding is intended to assist the public in managing rising energy costs and global energy market uncertainties, which are exacerbated by geopolitical tensions in West Asia and extreme weather linked to the El Nino phenomenon.

The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA Malaysia) has been implementing the program since July. It encourages consumers to adopt energy-efficient appliances, particularly air conditioners and refrigerators. With the increased rebate quota, the program is expected to save 602.91 gigawatt-hours of electricity, translating to cost savings of RM273.72 million over five years.

The initiative is also projected to reduce carbon emissions by 446,145 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually, supporting the nation's sustainability and low-carbon development goals.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) forecasts a Super El Nino phenomenon starting in November, with significant weather impacts anticipated in Malaysia between January and March 2027.

Details on eligibility, application procedures, implementation mechanisms, and the list of approved energy-efficient appliance brands and models can be found on SEDA Malaysia's official website at www.seda.gov.my/nur.
