St bernard parish: Persona AI, a Houston-based robotics company, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the State of Louisiana to initiate a pilot program aimed at advancing humanoid robotics in heavy-industry settings. This collaboration marks a pioneering effort where state authorities have partnered with the industry to foster humanoid robotics development within active industrial environments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the pilot will be conducted at SSE Steel Fabrication's facility in St Bernard Parish. This initiative is facilitated by Louisiana Innovation, a division of Louisiana Economic Development, and supported by Greater New Orleans Inc. The program aims to establish Louisiana as a leader in embodied artificial intelligence within advanced manufacturing and next-generation workforce technologies.

Nicolaus Radford, CEO of Persona AI, stated that the partnership with Louisiana will expedite humanoid development in a region critical to domestic shipbuilding and heavy manufacturing. The pilot will gather vital data on human movement and task performance, which will inform the development of humanoid systems that can effectively operate alongside skilled workers in complex environments.

The program seeks to utilize SSE Steel's operations as a testing ground for Persona AI's upcoming humanoid platforms. These robots are designed to function in environments originally built for human workers, offering an alternative to traditional automation systems. The humanoids are expected to handle existing tools, navigate uneven surfaces, and adapt to changing conditions, addressing labour shortages and operational challenges in heavy industry.

The initiative reflects a growing trend in the adoption of humanoid robotics across various US sectors, including manufacturing, energy, and defence. Officials note that such technological advancements often lead to the creation of higher-value roles in robotics operation and management.

The pilot will initially focus on training humanoid robots for welding tasks in fabrication and shipbuilding, with future plans to expand their deployment across Louisiana's core industries.
