Perlis: Perlis has fixed the zakat fitrah rate at RM9 per person this year, unchanged from last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) announced that the Ruler, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, consented to the rate at Istana Siraj in Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon.
Accompanying His Royal Highness during the announcement was the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who also serves as the president of MAIPs. MAIPs' chief executive officer, Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor, was also in attendance.
MAIPs stated that the rate was determined after considering the current market prices of rice, the staple food in the state. This decision aligns with syariah requirements, which set the zakat fitrah at one 'gantang Nabawi' per person. For those opting to pay zakat fitrah in the form of rice, it remains fixed at one gantang Nabawi or 2.6 kg per person.
MAIPs further explained that payment can be made through amil, the officially appointed zakat collectors, or via online payment through its official portal ww.maips.gov.my or its digital services platform at digital.maips.gov.my.
