Perlis Secures RM4 Mln Federal Allocation After MB’s Meeting With PM Anwar

Perlis: Perlis received a RM4 million allocation from the federal government after Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following his appointment on Dec 28 last year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abu Bakar stated that RM1.5 million of the allocation was used to provide Aidilfitri assistance to those in need, while RM1 million was allocated for a community feast held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration of the reign of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.

Another RM1 million was channelled to the Perlis Federal Development Office under the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU JPM) to upgrade Dataran Lok 9 in Kuala Perlis, while RM300,000 from the remaining balance was allocated for a community festival.

"In other words, RM3 million was allocated for programmes implemented by the state government, while RM1 million was given to ICU," Abu Bakar explained to reporters after the question-and-answer session at the Perlis State Legislative Assembly sitting at Kompleks Seri Putra.

Abu Bakar also mentioned that the state's Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) received funds for infrastructure upgrading works, including flood mitigation projects, following his discussions with Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, along with other Cabinet ministers.

Despite being governed by the opposition, Perlis has been able to engage with federal government leaders, which Abu Bakar emphasized is crucial for the state's development and the welfare of its people. He also highlighted the importance of state assemblymen playing their role in fostering good relations with the federal government.
