Perlis MB Urged To Explain Last Minute Postponement Of State Assembly Meeting

Kangar: Several state assemblymen have urged Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah to give an immediate explanation over the postponement of the state legislative assembly session, which had been scheduled from April 21 to 23.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sanglang state assemblyman and former Perlis PAS senior leader Mohd Shukri Ramli stated that he and five other PAS representatives received the postponement notice yesterday without any reasonable explanation. Mohd Shukri emphasized the need for a prompt explanation from the Menteri Besar, asserting that Abu Bakar should clarify the reason behind the sudden decision to delay the assembly session.

During a press conference held at the Mata Ayer constituency service centre, attended by the other five PAS assemblymen, Mohd Shukri expressed his concerns. The meeting would have marked the first state assembly sitting under Abu Bakar's leadership since he assumed the role of Menteri Besar on December 28 last year, following Mohd Shukri's resignation due to health reasons.

The notification letter announcing the session's postponement quickly circulated on social media, leading to various speculations about the reasons behind the decision. Mohd Shukri also mentioned his personal inconvenience, having delayed his pilgrimage to the Holy Land for the haj to May 3 in order to attend the session.

He further highlighted that the postponement of a state assembly sitting in Perlis is unprecedented without a strong justification, except in cases involving unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, the death of a royal or national figure, or an epidemic outbreak.
