Kuala perlis: The Perlis Department of Information (JAPEN) took a different approach this year by selecting a primary school as the venue for the state-level launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign, as part of efforts to nurture patriotism among the younger generation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Information Director Aidatul Shima Che Hassan said the launch ceremony today held at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seberang Ramai in Kuala Perlis featured the participation of pupils in patriotic-themed activities such as a decorated bicycle parade and the creation of the longest Jalur Gemilang (national flag).
This was further supported by the involvement of 14 vehicles from various departments and agencies, as well as 30 motorcycles from the Perlis Scooter Club, which will take part in the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy across three parliamentary constituencies today and tomorrow, she said. She told reporters this after the launch ceremony, which was officiated by Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Ay Ling.
Aidatul Shima also called on all segments of society in the state to enliven the National Month celebration by supporting the 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang Campaign as a sign of appreciation for the struggles of past independence heroes.
Meanwhile, SK Seberang Ramai Headmaster Suzaide Md Noh said the school was honoured to be chosen as the venue for this year’s National Month launch in the state, describing it as a meaningful experience for both pupils and teachers. He said the programme provided pupils with direct exposure to the meaning of independence through activities such as making the longest flag and patriotic performances.
“This is the perfect time to instil love for the nation. We hope the pupils will always remember this experience,” he said.
