Kangar: The Perlis Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has assured consumers of a sufficient coconut supply in the state for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season. Its director, Rohaida Hassan, stated that the initial supply issues experienced in the first week of Ramadan have been resolved. Wholesalers in Perlis have successfully sourced coconuts from Indonesia, Sabah, and Sarawak to meet the demand.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Rohaida Hassan emphasized that there will be enough coconuts to ensure the availability of santan (fresh coconut milk) at prices not exceeding RM20 per kilogramme. Currently, the price of santan in Perlis ranges between RM17 and RM17.50 per kilogramme. The ministry will continue to monitor these prices to prevent any significant increases.
Rohaida made these remarks during a walkabout session at Pasar Besar Sena, part of the state-level Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) implementation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025. Santan is one of the 26 items included in the maximum price scheme, with a retail price cap set at RM17.50 per kilogramme, effective from March 24 to April 7.
She also noted that 37 Perlis KPDN enforcement officers will oversee the pricing of goods throughout the festive season. Consumers are encouraged to report any non-compliance with the price scheme so that immediate action can be taken. During the walkabout, it was observed that traders at Pasar Besar Sena were adhering to the pricing scheme, with some even offering goods below the maximum set prices.
