Perlis Government Weighs Implementation of RM2-RM5 Exit Charges at Key ICQs to Thailand

Kangar: The Perlis government is currently evaluating a proposal to implement state charges ranging from RM2 to RM5 for tourists exiting Malaysia through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at Padang Besar and Wang Kelian en route to Thailand.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli emphasized the necessity of a thorough examination of this proposal before any formal application is made to the Federal Government. The proposed charges are seen as a potential source of revenue for the state, which could be utilized to enhance infrastructure within Perlis.

Menteri Besar Shukri expressed optimism about the proposal, stating, ‘This is still being studied. Hopefully, we will get approval from the Federal Government after we have carried out the study and submitted the official application.’ His remarks came after the state executive council meeting at the Seri Putra Complex.

Additionally, State Secretary Datuk Rahimi Ismail highlighted the importance of collecting precise data to support the official application to the Federal Government. Rahimi noted that if the charges receive approval, the resulting income could be directed toward development initiatives and benefit the local population.
