Kangar: The Perlis state government plans to explore collaboration opportunities with Brunei and Bangkok to strengthen border tourism and attract investment, particularly in the development of five-star hotels in the state. Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the plan was among the state government's efforts to identify new opportunities to boost Perlis' economy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abu Bakar emphasized the importance of developing high-end accommodation facilities to support the state government's target of attracting more tourists in the future. 'We are indeed targeting and currently seeking investors to develop a five-star hotel. In addition to Kuala Perlis and Kangar, the Padang Besar area also has the potential to be developed as a high-end hotel destination,' he told reporters after visiting a motorsport circuit site.
Regarding the motorsport circuit, Abu Bakar noted its potential as a sports tourism attraction for tourists from Thailand and other countries, given its location near the border. On June 12, the Perlis state government announced plans to build the motorsport circuit at the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA), involving an area of about 13.35 hectares.
Abu Bakar mentioned that the construction of the motorsport circuit involves collaboration between Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Perlis and a private company in the state, aiming to strengthen the sports sector and stimulate economic activity.
