Perlis Customs Seizes Cannabis, Goods Worth Over RM1 Million

Perlis: The Perlis branch of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) seized cannabis and several items on which duties were allegedly unpaid, with a total estimated value of RM1,472,954.80 in six cases between May and July.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the seizures involved 25.123 kg of suspected cannabis flower and cannabis worth an estimated RM700,840, as well as 82,960 cigarette sticks worth RM25,714.80, 5,840 gas stoves worth RM238,200, and 1,016 liters of alcoholic beverages worth RM508,200.

The seizures were made in Padang Besar and Kuala Perlis, as well as in Jitra, Kedah, and Port Klang, Selangor, on May 21, June 19, and July 9, 21, 23, and 29. Mohammad Furiman Hattar, the director of JKDM, highlighted that the cast-iron gas stoves had been declared under an incorrect tariff code that did not correspond to the actual type of goods imported.

All six cases are currently being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, and Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967. Mohammad Furiman urged the public to cooperate by providing information on smuggling activities as part of efforts to combat the crime.
