Perlis: Perlis and four districts in Kedah are currently experiencing a Level 2 heatwave, with temperatures soaring to significant highs. Meanwhile, 16 other areas in Peninsular Malaysia are under Level 1 (alert) status as of 4 pm today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has identified the Level 2 districts in Kedah as Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, and Sik. These regions are seeing daily maximum temperatures ranging between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days, qualifying them for the Level 2 heatwave status.
Areas under Level 1, where daily temperatures range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, include Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu in Kedah. Additionally, Timur Laut and Utara districts in Penang, along with Hulu Perak, Selama, Kinta, Kuala Kangsar, and Perak Tengah in Perak, Jerantut in Pahang, and Segamat in Johor, are also under the Level 1 alert.
The rising temperatures have prompted MetMalaysia to issue alerts, urging residents to take necessary precautions to cope with the heat.
