Pokok machang: PERDA chairman Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin announced the continuation of the #PERDADiHati outreach programme, now in its third year, targeting rural communities within Penang. The initiative, which began in 2023, has successfully conducted 11 editions and aims to engage 10,000 participants across five areas this year. The first event of the year was held in Pokok Machang, within the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency, with plans to extend to four additional regions, including an area on the island, by October.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Shaik emphasized that the programme is integral to PERDA’s strategy to uplift rural communities, ensuring they have equal access to information and government services akin to those available in urban areas. The initiative’s collaboration with various agencies and departments aims to deliver comprehensive, inclusive, and people-centric services, resonating with the MADANI aspiration for social justice and shared prosperity.
PERDA’s general manager, Datuk Mohd Asri Baharum, highlighted the programme’s role in collecting feedback from rural communities to enhance strategic planning. Engagement sessions with entrepreneurs and stall operators also form part of PERDA’s efforts to provide guidance on managing rented premises.
The event featured an array of community-centric activities, including motivational and parenting talks, Agro MADANI sales in partnership with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), and the distribution of economic empowerment aid and Rahmah food baskets.
