Ipoh: Perak will provide incentives to two state athletes who secured medals at the recently concluded Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The presentation is expected to take place alongside the incentive ceremony for Malaysia Games (SUKMA) athletes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee Chairman Datuk Khairudin Abu Hanipah emphasized the state government's commitment to recognizing the achievements of Perak athletes on the international stage. This acknowledgment comes through incentives approved by the State Executive Council (MMK), which are awarded to athletes winning gold, silver, or bronze medals in major international tournaments like the SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympics.

Khairudin explained, "Every Perak state athlete who succeeds in winning medals at international games indeed has incentives that we have set according to the rates approved by the MMK meeting. Given that the Commonwealth Games have just concluded, the presentation of incentives to the athletes involved will likely be done alongside the incentive presentation ceremony for the SUKMA athletes later."

He made these remarks during a press conference following the Handing-Over Ceremony of the Perak State Flag "Belang Tarung Tiga Warna" for the 2026 Perak State SUKMA and Para SUKMA Contingents, officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad at the Indera Mulia Stadium.

Khairudin further detailed that the incentive rates vary depending on the tournament's level, with the state government categorizing games such as the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and SEA Games. "The reward rates have been agreed upon by the State MMK, and the government always fulfills the provision of incentives to eligible athletes, but the exact amount for each category needs to be re-verified based on the approved decisions," he stated.

Highlighting the success of Perak athletes at the Commonwealth Games, Khairudin noted that two state athletes, Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and Aleena Ahmad Nawawi, won silver medals in the lawn bowls event. Both athletes are set to receive incentives according to the rates defined by the state government, acknowledging their contributions in bringing honor to Perak and Malaysia on the international sports stage.
