Perak: The Perak police have seized various types of drugs worth RM46.32 million from January to August 10 this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin announced that the drugs seized included methamphetamine, ecstasy, heroin, and cannabis, marking the highest number of seizures in the state. A total of 4,529 investigation papers were opened under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act, of which 4,327 cases have been brought to court.

Action under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988 led to the seizure of various assets, such as houses, land, jewellery, vehicles, and bank accounts, valued at over RM4.35 million. Mohd Alwi provided this information during a press conference at the Perak contingent police headquarters (IPK) compound, where drug and ketum case exhibits were disposed of.

The IPK's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department successfully arrested 12,916 drug offenders from January to August 10. Among these, 1,934 individuals were apprehended for drug trafficking offences, marking an eight percent increase compared to the same period last year.

A total of 299 individuals were arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, while 68 others were detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. Most of these individuals were identified as masterminds or financiers in syndicates dismantled this year.

Regarding arrests for drug possession, 4,482 people were detained, a slight decrease of 0.01 percent from last year. For urine screening offences, 6,432 people were arrested, showing a four percent decline compared to the previous year.

Today, 11 types of drugs, including cough medicine and ketum juice, valued at RM4,080,194.87, were disposed of. The disposal covered 5,000 investigation papers from 2000 to 2025, involving cases for which trials had concluded.
