Teluk Intan: The Perak government has announced plans to provide initial assistance to the families of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who were involved in a tragic crash early this morning. This support is intended to aid in the funeral arrangements for the victims.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khairudin Abu Hanipah, the State Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee chairman, made this announcement on behalf of the Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. He emphasized that this initial assistance is aimed at helping the affected families during this difficult time. Further discussions are anticipated at the next Exco meeting to explore additional ways to support those impacted by this unfortunate event.
Khairudin conveyed these remarks following his visit to the Forensic Department at Teluk Intan Hospital, where he extended condolences and support to the victims’ families. The accident, which occurred at 8:50 am, involved a truck carrying 15 FRU personnel from Unit 5 Ipoh and a gravel-laden lorry.
Expressing the state government’s condolences, Khairudin stated, “It is hoped that the families will remain strong in facing this incredibly difficult ordeal. We pray that the souls of the victims be blessed and placed among the righteous.” He also wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.
Earlier reports from Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr. Bakri Zainal Abidin confirmed that nine FRU members from Unit 5 Ipoh lost their lives in the collision on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam. The personnel were returning to Ipoh after an assignment related to the Chitirai Pournami celebration. Eight personnel died at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries at Teluk Intan Hospital.
