Perak: The Perak State Assembly today unanimously passed the Administration of the Religion of Islam (Perak) Enactment (Amendment) Bill 2025 to ensure a more efficient regulation of the governance of Islamic educational institutions in the state. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, when tabling the bill, emphasized the importance of aligning the amendment with the newly drafted Control of Islamic Religious School Enactment (Perak) Bill 2025, which was approved the previous day.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the amendment aims to eliminate the duplication of provisions regarding Islamic religious schools in separate laws, thereby ensuring consistency and preventing conflicts in implementation. During the state assembly sitting, Saarani, who also serves as the Kota Tampan assemblyman, outlined the specific changes made to the Administration of the Religion of Islam (Perak) Enactment 2004, focusing on Section 109 and Subsection 111(2).
The amendments include the removal of provisions related to the state religious council’s authority to register schools and regulate the administration of schools and Islamic teaching activities. These provisions have been revised and incorporated into the new Control of Islamic Religious School Enactment. Saarani noted that the provisions were removed because the Control of Islamic Religious School Enactment 1996 is obsolete and has been repealed with the introduction of the new bill.
The Assembly’s unanimous approval of the Control of Islamic Religious School Enactment (Perak) Bill 2025 aims to enhance the administration, coordination, and streamlining of Islamic educational institutions across the state. The assembly sitting concluded with an adjournment to a date that will be determined later.
