Perak Among Top Fish Producers With 333,984 Tonnes Landings – MB

Arena sungai siput: Perak recorded 333,984.26 tonnes of fish landings last year, placing the state among the country's major fish producers, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. He stated that the strong output strengthens the state's capacity to streamline fish distribution nationwide more efficiently.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saarani emphasized that when production is strong and distribution is well-organized, catches reach consumers fresh, while fishermen enjoy a more stable and sustainable market. He made these remarks at the launch of the Perak Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Affordable Fish Sale initiative at Arena Sungai Siput, with State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun and Perak LKIM director Ahmad Zulkifli Ismail in attendance.

Saarani detailed that the initiative will be rolled out across all 12 districts, with five permanent sites in each district designated as main sales points. In addition to the fixed locations, sales will also occur after Friday prayers at selected mosques. To further expand outreach, mobile sales using tents, three-wheeled motorcycles, and lorries will be conducted at least three times weekly at selected areas. The initiative aims at conducting more than 1,000 sales sessions throughout 2026, reflecting a continuous and structured implementation rather than a short-term measure.

Meanwhile, Tun Saliha Nasarudin, 60, from Kampung Sungai Sejuk, mentioned that the initiative has helped ease her daily expenses. She noted purchasing squid, prawns, and fish for a week for about RM50, compared to RM140 at wet markets. Tun Saliha expressed hope that the initiative continues, especially ahead of the festive season.
