Subang Jaya: Individuals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government agencies are asked to donate essential items to victims of the gas pipeline fire incident who are currently taking shelter at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at the Putra Heights Mosque, Subang Jaya.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Putra Heights Community Committee member Raja Hilmi Raja Idris expressed the need for more contributions, as the duration of the victims’ stay at the PPS is uncertain. He emphasized the importance of donations, stating, “Many people cannot actually return because their homes and vehicles are gone. So we need more help if possible.” The essential items required include slippers, sanitary towels, disposable diapers for both children and adults, and clothes.
As of 7.30 tonight, 349 victims from 72 families are being accommodated at the PPS. Former television personality Adiel Abd Ghaffar, also affected by the fire, commended the mosque committee for their rapid response in setting up temporary facilities. “I congratulate and commend the Putra Heights Mosque committee members for being able to provide this temporary infrastructure in a short time,” he said.
Government pensioner Yaakob Yusof, 74, expressed gratitude for the assistance but also urged the government to facilitate the retrieval process of important documents destroyed in the fire.
Earlier, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad confirmed that 237 houses were affected by the fire at 8.10 am this morning. Selangor police reported that the total number of victims stands at 364, with most suffering from burns and heat exhaustion.
