Kuala lumpur: Malaysians need to continue strengthening their sense of belonging and shared identity in the effort to build a strong nation-state, with national interests surpassing racial, religious and regional differences. National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang emphasized the importance of unity during the 63rd Malaysia Day celebration, urging citizens to respect one another and preserve the unity and harmony foundational to the country's peace, stability, and prosperity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron highlighted that the diversity of races, religions, cultures, languages, and customs in Malaysia is a significant asset to the nation. From Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak, every community contributes to the country's unique identity. He stressed that despite differences, Malaysians share a common identity that serves as the cornerstone of the nation's peace and stability.

Aaron recounted the historical formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963, which followed a series of negotiations and mutual agreements initiated by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj in 1961. This process involved key figures like Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, Tun Fuad Stephens, Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun, Temenggong Jugah Anak Barieng, and Stephen Kalong Ningkan, whose efforts laid the groundwork for the nation's establishment.

He concluded with a message of unity, stating, "Happy Malaysia Day 2026. Malaysia belongs to all of us and Malaysia is our shared responsibility."
