Penang: The Penang state government has announced plans to host a Chinese New Year Open House at the SPICE Arena in Bayan Baru on February 17, 2026. The event is set to welcome the public and residents of Penang from 2 pm to 4.30 pm for a celebration of Chinese traditions and culture.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow revealed that the event will feature the attendance of Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Ramli Ngah Taib, and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah. The open house aims to highlight the richness of Chinese cultural heritage, offering traditional dishes from various ethnic groups and a range of cultural performances, including traditional songs, lion dances, and the 24 Festival Drums.
Chow emphasized that the event symbolizes unity and underscores the state government's commitment to celebrating major festivals as a community. The open house provides an opportunity for fostering a sense of togetherness and mutual respect for cultural diversity among residents.
This year, the open house will occur on the first day of the Chinese New Year, a departure from the usual second-day celebration, due to the anticipated start of Ramadan on that date.
