Kuala lumpur: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Penang has formed three new committees to enhance the coalition's preparedness for the 16th General Election (GE16). This initiative aims to bolster state-level readiness and address critical electoral issues.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow announced that the committees include the Election Manifesto Committee, led by Zairil Khir Johari from DAP, the Information Committee, headed by Lee Boon Heng of PKR, and the Mobilisation Committee, chaired by Zahar Zainul from Amanah. These committees will focus on addressing issues such as low voter turnout, strategies to increase voter engagement, and raising awareness about the significance of the upcoming general election.
During a press conference following the 2026 Penang PH Annual General Meeting, Chow stated that the committees were established during the meeting. It was also decided that he would continue as the chairman of the state PH Leadership Council for the 2024/2026 term. The council's three deputy chairmen are Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid from PKR, Steven Sim Chee Keong from DAP, and Muhammad Faiz Fadzil from Amanah.
The leadership lineup also includes three vice-chairmen: Ramkarpal Singh from DAP, Dr Zaidi Zakaria from Amanah, and Goh Choon Aik from PKR. Lim Hui Ying from DAP was appointed as the secretary, with Zulkiefly Saad from PKR serving as the assistant secretary.
Chow, who also serves as the Penang Chief Minister, emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among the state PH component parties. This collaboration is crucial for ensuring effective governance, sustainable development across Penang, and empowering grassroots machinery.
Regarding potential electoral arrangements ahead of GE16, Chow mentioned that any such arrangements would not hinder Penang PH's preparations in all constituencies previously contested by the coalition. "We take note of the political dynamics, particularly following the PH Convention in Johor Bahru. Whatever electoral arrangement may emerge ahead of the election, it will not prevent us from making preparations in all areas we previously contested," he said.
