Penang JKM Seeks Information on Parents of Two Abandoned Children

Penang: The Penang Social Welfare Department (JKM) is actively seeking the parents or relatives of a three-year-old boy, Zaki, and a nine-month-old baby girl, both of whom have been classified as abandoned in separate incidents.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JKM reported receiving a referral from the Penang Immigration Department on December 2 regarding Zaki, a child without a birth certificate. The boy was found with a caretaker named Antika Tiara, an Indonesian national, during an operation conducted at a residence located at 1148, Jalan 3, Perkampungan Berapit. Due to the need for care and protection under the Child Act 2001, Zaki has been temporarily placed in the care of a Fit and Suitable Person, as per Section 19(2) of the Child Act 2001, starting from December 4. JKM is urging Zaki's biological mother or relatives to contact the Seberang Perai Tengah District Social Welfare Office or reach out to the case Protector, Norhasliza Abdullah, for assistance in determining the best placement for the child's welfare.

In a separate case, JKM is also endeavoring to locate the parents or relatives of a nine-month-old baby girl abandoned at Seberang Jaya Hospital since March. The baby, diagnosed with Pierre Robin Syndrome, was born on March 12 at a private hospital and later referred to Seberang Jaya Hospital. Her mother, identified as Chris Renova Girsang, an Indonesian national, has not been located despite efforts to trace her whereabouts. JKM is seeking information from the baby's next of kin to facilitate appropriate placement and ensure her welfare. Relatives or members of the public who may have information are encouraged to contact the SPT District Social Welfare Office or Protector Siti Zulaikha.
