Penang: Relations among people of various races in Malaysia are strong and marked by mutual respect, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking at the Penang State-Level MADANI Aidilfitri 2025 Celebration, the Prime Minister highlighted the unity displayed during the event, where Malaysians of all races and religions gathered to celebrate in harmony.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that the peaceful and inclusive atmosphere of the celebration was evidence of the positive race relations in the country. The Prime Minister recalled his upbringing in Bukit Mertajam, a multi-racial area, noting the absence of racial tension.
Anwar remarked that issues arise primarily when political figures attempt to incite racial discord. He pointed to the thousands of Malays, Chinese, and Indians dining together at the celebration as a testament to the absence of hostility among the people.
The Prime Minister also urged Malaysians to recognize the unique strength of their country’s unity, which is rare among nations with diverse populations. He proposed Penang as a model of racial harmony and called for nationwide unity to foster Malaysia’s development on the global stage.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, among others. Over 10,000 visitors from different racial backgrounds participated in the celebration with the Prime Minister.
