Kuala lumpur: Penang FC's target for the upcoming 2026/2027 Super League season is to finish among the top six teams, the club's board of directors' chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said. He explained that it would follow the series of improvement in standings for the club, which finished eighth last season compared to 10th the previous season, besides qualifying to the final of the Challenge Cup.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gooi expressed the club's ambition to maintain its momentum and challenge other teams, despite playing at the State Stadium in Batu Kawan due to upgrades at the City Stadium. The management holds full confidence in head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail, supporting him despite some fan skepticism, with hopes of improved team performance.

Wan Rohaimi plans to retain 14 players from last season, adding 15 new players, with two more foreign players expected to complete the team roster. The team aims to learn from last season's weaknesses, particularly their failure to convert chances into goals, with hopes that new recruits from Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Kosimov and Murodbek Bobojonov, will address these issues.

The coach was pleased with the team's chemistry and performance during recent pre-season matches, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and a resilient attitude. As part of their final preparations, Penang FC will play three international friendlies in Thailand and Indonesia, along with potentially another domestic match, before starting the season against Brunei DPMM FC on August 23.
