Penang: The Penang State Education Department (JPNPP) has initiated measures following a complaint involving a Year Six male pupil who was allegedly humiliated, physically assaulted, and threatened by a teacher at a school in the Northeast district.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JPNPP director Mohamad Dziauddin Mat Saad stated that the Northeast District Education Office (PPDTL) has taken steps based on their investigation into the incident. A consultation session was organized with the pupil's parents, PPDTL, school administrators, and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to discuss potential actions and ensure the welfare of all parties involved.

As a precautionary step, the teacher involved is no longer in direct contact with the pupil and has been referred to the PPDTL Organisational Counsellor for guidance. Concurrently, the pupil has been directed to a guidance and counselling teacher for further support.

The Penang MCA Public Services and Public Complaints Bureau reported that the boy's mother expressed dissatisfaction with the perceived inadequacy of action against the teacher. The incident allegedly occurred on June 19, when the pupil's recital of Yasin during a school assembly led to criticism and physical assault by the teacher, including being struck with a shoe.

Mohamad Dziauddin emphasized that JPNPP is open to further discussions with the parents, as they still have concerns about how the case was managed. He reassured that the department remains committed to prioritizing the pupils' safety and well-being, ensuring a secure learning environment in line with existing regulations.

He also highlighted that the teacher's rights are being safeguarded through fair and prudent actions, following established procedures. JPNPP will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary actions aligned with current regulations.
