Penang DOSH Probes Bangladeshi Worker’s Fatal Fall At Construction Site

Penang: The Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is investigating the death of a Bangladeshi worker who is believed to have fallen from a building under construction in Bayan Mutiara here.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang DOSH director Hairozie Asri stated that the department received information on the incident from an external party at 12.15 pm yesterday. This prompted the immediate dispatch of a team of investigating officers to the site.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was employed by a subcontractor performing painting, plastering, and housekeeping work at the construction site. He is believed to have been working on the 34th floor before he was found seriously injured on the canopy roof floor at Level 9. Medical officers from Penang Hospital later confirmed that he died at the scene.

Hairozie noted that DOSH had issued a prohibition notice to the subcontractor to halt painting, plastering, and housekeeping work in open-edge areas. A similar prohibition notice was issued to the main contractor. All work activities related to the accident site have been ordered to cease immediately until all the requirements of the prohibition notices have been fully complied with.
