Penang: Penang remains committed to promoting Islamic development, including allocating funds for the construction of mosques, suraus, religious schools, and tahfiz institutions, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. In his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message, he highlighted the state’s efforts in enhancing facilities for religious practices and education.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government has allocated RM10.22 million this year for the development and maintenance of mosques and suraus. This funding will support building new mosques, conducting renovation works, and providing better facilities for congregants. Chow emphasized the importance of these initiatives as part of the Islamic Development Agenda 2030 and the Penang2030 Vision.
Chow also revealed that RM14.2 million has been earmarked to enhance Islamic education in the state. This allocation will focus on improving religious schools and tahfiz institutions to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of progress and shared prosperity.
He expressed hope that this year’s Aidilfitri celebrations would strengthen bonds of brotherhood and unity within the community, fostering harmony and mutual respect. Chow noted that the tradition of visiting one another and exchanging gifts remains widely practiced, reflecting the community’s spirit of love and appreciation for diversity.
