Ipoh: The Perak chapter of the Malaysian Association for the Prevention of Drugs (PEMADAM) is advancing its efforts to combat drug abuse in schools by developing a systematic prevention module. This initiative will see district trainers undergoing training this year, with the programme set to be implemented statewide from next year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi emphasized that the module, expected to be ready within one to two weeks, aims to establish a continuous framework for drug prevention education. This will replace the previous ad-hoc approaches, ensuring that each district has a dedicated schedule and target schools for the programme.

Mohd Azlan highlighted that potential trainers, including those from district-level PEMADAM, village heads, and community leaders, will be identified and trained within the current year. The programme's implementation will involve collaboration with the District Education Offices (PPD), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

He also noted that the ASCEND programme, created by SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun, aligns with PEMADAM's objectives of prevention and education. It focuses on equipping students with skills to resist peer pressure and seek help when necessary.

Furthermore, Mohd Azlan stated that the state government is prepared to engage NGOs and grassroots communities as partners in schools. Efforts to increase awareness of cyberbullying and digital literacy will also be enhanced through collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and PDRM.
