Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) must be empowered to enforce the law independently, irrespective of individuals' positions or backgrounds, to achieve a world-class status, according to Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. He emphasized that firm, unbiased action is essential for maintaining respect and trust within the community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ayob Khan stated the importance of impartial law enforcement during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol). The event marked the Handover Ceremony of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, where Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus was appointed as the Acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

Ayob Khan also clarified his stance on politics, expressing no interest in joining the political arena after his retirement. He differentiated between politicians and statesmen, emphasizing his focus on long-term goals rather than short-term political gains.

Addressing allegations of political interference, Ayob Khan cited his leadership of the Counter Terrorism Division in 2019, where he arrested individuals, including government party members, suspected of involvement with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He asserted that his actions were free from political bias, demonstrating his commitment to uphold the law.

Ayob Khan is set to retire compulsorily after nearly 35 years of service with PDRM. His career includes significant roles in the Special Branch and various departments, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in June 2023.
