PDRM Enhances Convoy SOPs Following Teluk Intan FRU Tragedy: IGP

Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has tightened its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for large-scale convoy assignments to prevent a recurrence of the fatal accident involving a Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) truck in Teluk Intan, Perak, last year. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail emphasized the importance of adherence to these procedures by all personnel during their duties.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the improvements focus on ensuring strict compliance with SOPs, particularly for operations involving large convoys. Mohd Khalid expressed confidence that these enhanced procedures will help reduce accidents during duty assignments and while on the road. He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the PDRM Special Dialogue V (PSD V) 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).

In addition to the revised SOPs, Mohd Khalid highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade FRU logistics and equipment, facilitated by government-funded procurement of new vehicles. He believes that these enhancements will provide greater motivation to PDRM personnel.

Mohd Khalid also reassured the public that the welfare of the families affected by the crash remains a priority, with assistance and insurance coverage being handled efficiently. He encouraged families to reach out to their respective state police chiefs if they encounter any issues.

The tragic incident occurred on May 13 last year, resulting in the deaths of nine FRU personnel and injuries to nine others when their truck was hit by a gravel-laden lorry on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam. The FRU team was returning to Ipoh after completing their duties under Ops Chariot in Teluk Intan.
