Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have recorded a statement from an individual as part of the investigation into claims of a plot to overthrow the government, allegedly involving a local influential figure and an international media agency. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that the individual came forward voluntarily following a report lodged on February 26.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the statement was extensive and will require time for thorough examination by the police. Currently, only one person's statement has been recorded, but plans are in place to call in three to four additional individuals to aid in the investigation. This was disclosed by Mohd Khalid during a briefing after the Home Ministry's monthly assembly.
The Inspector-General emphasized that the investigation is complex and involves national security concerns, necessitating a comprehensive and cautious approach. The police have identified several individuals whose statements are required, and the investigation may explore potential foreign involvement as it progresses.
On the involvement of Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, the wife of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, Mohd Khalid remarked that the decision is still under consideration. The investigation currently focuses on local individuals, with any foreign connections to be investigated further as new information arises.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated on March 3 that the alleged coup attempt involved local actors using international media and institutions, including Zionist groups. He noted that preliminary police findings indicate the movement was orchestrated from abroad, with significant financial backing aimed at destabilizing the government.
