Pasir Mas:Residents in Pasir Mas are hopeful that Phase 2 of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development (PLSB) Project will mitigate the recurring floods that affect their lives, properties, and crops each monsoon season.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the project was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of the Supply (Budget) 2027 Bill last Friday. It aims to bolster flood mitigation efforts, especially in the frequently affected area of Rantau Panjang due to the overflow of Sungai Golok.
Mohd Irwan Faizal Che Rojiun, a resident of Kampung Tersang in Rantau Panjang, expressed that the announcement has renewed community hope for more effective flood management in high-risk areas. He emphasized the urgency of completing the project as the flood season approaches.
Former Mukim Lubuk Gong penghulu, Mohd Ariffin Ismail, appreciated the federal government's commitment to funding flood solutions in Kelantan. However, he stressed that the project should proceed without further delays. He highlighted the importance of addressing issues such as breached bunds, the necessity for culverts to improve floodwater flow, and the problem of stagnant floodwaters affecting mobility and daily life.
Mohd Ariffin also hopes the project will resolve flooding issues from Kampung Lachang to Lubuk Jong. He urged contractors to find effective drainage solutions to prevent stagnant water and ensure that access roads remain passable and crops are protected.
In the Budget 2027 announcement, Anwar stated that Phase 2 of the Sungai Golok PLSB in Kelantan would be among the Flood Mitigation Scheme (RTB) projects slated for implementation in 2027, as part of efforts to enhance the flood mitigation systems in the Sungai Golok basin.
