Kuala Lumpur: Shuttler Loo Bing Kun believes that his mixed doubles partnership with Toh Ee Wei will boost his confidence when competing in international tournaments. The 21-year-old Bing Kun said he would make good use of the opportunity to partner Ee Wei and learn as much as he can from her since she has vast experience on the international stage.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bing Kun expressed that when he was with his previous partner, he had to guide her. However, with Ee Wei, who is more senior and experienced, he feels more confident about the upcoming tournaments. He plans to combine with Ee Wei for four or five tournaments to assess their compatibility. During this short period, he aims to learn as much as possible from Ee Wei, hoping to elevate his performance to the next level.
The Penangite admitted that he still has much to learn and improve on to make his partnership with Ee Wei successful. He acknowledged the intense pressure he would face being paired with Ee Wei, who is ranked fourth in the world, as expectations from the coaches will be higher. Bing Kun mentioned that he has discussed this pressure with the coaches and Ee Wei, and they have assured him of their support in overcoming it.
On Friday, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed that the Chen Tang Jie-Ee Wei partnership would be split for upcoming tournaments based on the recommendation of the coaching panel, including doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky and mixed doubles head coach Nova Widianto. The decision to give Tang Jie and Ee Wei a time-out is to allow them space to resolve tensions and issues that have arisen between them.
Rexy later announced that Tang Jie would team up with Chan Wen Tse in mixed doubles and with Wong Vin Sean in men’s doubles. Meanwhile, Ee Wei will partner with Bing Kun in five tournaments starting in May.
