Part-Time Instructor Scammed Out Of Over RM800,000 In Fake Investment

Kemaman: A part-time instructor lost RM872,290 after falling victim to a fake investment on social media in June. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli reported that the 59-year-old man encountered an advertisement promoting the investment on Facebook on April 24 and subsequently contacted the investment company.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect, who went by the name Annabelle, added the victim to a WhatsApp group named Wealth Explorer. She instructed him to download an app purportedly designed for depositing his investment profits. The victim, trusting the scheme, used his savings, including funds from Tabung Haji, and even pawned gold to make a total of 21 investments. These transactions were spread across 11 bank accounts between June 4 and August 8.

The unfortunate reality of the scam came to light when the victim lodged a police report yesterday. He realized the fraud after receiving a mere RM1,000 in return for his substantial investment. The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, as confirmed by Supt Mohd Razi Rosli.
