Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Parliament Open Day 2026, slated for September 12 and 13, is set to provide the public with a direct experience of the nation's legislative process, according to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul. The event will coincide with Parliament's 67th anniversary and National Month celebrations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event aims to demystify parliamentary proceedings and encourage public engagement. Johari emphasized the importance of citizens witnessing the operations of their 'House of Democracy.' He extended an invitation to the public to explore Parliament beyond mere observation.

The Open Day will feature exhibitions and public engagement activities, as the Dewan Rakyat will not convene on these dates. Over 40 ministries and agencies, such as Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA), Residensi Wilayah, MyFutureJobs, and Bank Rakyat, will participate, providing information and services on careers and financing, particularly targeting young visitors.

Johari also highlighted ongoing institutional reforms in Parliament, including the creation of 10 Parliamentary Special Select Committees. These committees aim to scrutinize bills comprehensively before they are enacted. Youth development remains a focus, with initiatives like the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) curriculum and the Malaysian Youth Parliament, which offers young adults aged 18 to 30 the opportunity to engage in parliamentary processes.

Furthermore, Johari noted the recent government approval of the Parliamentary Services Act 2025, a key development in enhancing Parliament's institutional autonomy after decades of executive control.
