Pakistani Prime Minister Delays Malaysia Visit Amid Kashmir Tensions

Kuala Lumpur: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has postponed his official visit to Malaysia, initially scheduled for this Friday, due to escalating tensions following a recent attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who confirmed receiving the news from Sharif during a phone call.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed understanding of Pakistan’s challenging situation and conveyed Malaysia’s hope for a swift de-escalation of tensions. He strongly condemned any form of violence and affirmed Malaysia’s support for an independent and transparent investigation to hold those responsible accountable. Anwar shared these sentiments in a Facebook post, highlighting Malaysia’s readiness to play a constructive role if necessary.

Anwar emphasized Malaysia’s strong ties with both Pakistan and India, suggesting the country could support efforts to promote regional peace and stability. He also mentioned that Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his appreciation for Malaysia’s longstanding friendship and expressed the desire to expedite the signing of a memorandum of understanding currently under negotiation.

Anwar reassured that Malaysia is committed to facilitating this process and looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Shehbaz to Malaysia when the time is right, with hopes for peace and goodwill. The relations between India and Pakistan have worsened following a terror attack in Kashmir on April 22.
