Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the passing of the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as an immense loss to the nation. Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Ahmad Zahid described the passing of ‘Pak Lah’ as the loss of a statesman with a noble soul, whose calm leadership and unwavering commitment to prioritising the people’s interests will always be remembered.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the legacy left by Tun Abdullah in laying the groundwork for an administration rooted in integrity and the principles of Islam Hadhari, which will forever be engraved in Malaysia’s history. Ahmad Zahid expressed personal grief, stating that Tun Abdullah was more than just a national leader, but also a mentor and guiding figure he deeply respected.
Ahmad Zahid also reflected on his early days in public service, sharing that Tun Abdullah had opened many doors, offered guidance, and provided invaluable advice throughout his journey. He emphasized the pivotal role of Tun Abdullah’s guidance and trust in shaping his own path in public service. Ahmad Zahid concluded his tribute with prayers for Tun Abdullah’s eternal peace and reward.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof also extended his condolences to the family of the late Abdullah via Facebook. Fadillah echoed the sentiment that the former Prime Minister’s passing represents a profound loss for the nation. He acknowledged Tun Abdullah’s leadership with a focus on human capital development and the principles of Islam Hadhari, noting that his contributions during his tenure from October 31, 2003, to April 3, 2009, will always be remembered and appreciated.
Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi passed away at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 7.10 pm today.
