Pahang: The Pahang government hopes that any charge imposed on vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands will take into account the interests and welfare of local residents. Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim emphasized the need for the parties involved to give special attention to the welfare of workers and the community in the area.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Razali highlighted the importance of considering daily commuters, including parents sending their children to school and residents traveling through the area. He made these remarks during the launch of Sanwa Tours (M) Sdn Bhd’s new express bus service at Terminal Sentral Muadzam Shah.
On Thursday, Genting Malaysia Bhd confirmed the introduction of charges for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands, with the implementation date yet to be announced. The company stated that the private road charge is essential due to the steep and escalating costs of maintaining the 24-km private road and its slopes, which have been solely funded by the company since the 1960s.
