PAC To Call Former Finance Ministers To Conclude Proceedings On 1MDB.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon two former Finance Ministers to conclude its proceedings on efforts to recover 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) assets and the debt financing guarantee for the company. PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin announced that Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, who served from 2021 to 2022 and is now the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, and Lim Guan Eng, who held the post from 2018 to 2020, would be called upon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the committee will also call upon Datuk Asri Hamidon, former Treasury secretary-general from 2020 to 2023, and representatives from Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership. They will be asked to provide explanations on the recovery efforts during the firm’s role in the 1MDB Special Committee. The proceedings are anticipated to take place in the third week of November, as stated by Mas Ermieyati during a press conference at the Parliament Building.

In a session held on November 4, which lasted
two hours, the PAC gathered testimonies and explanations from Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and 1MDB Asset Recovery Taskforce chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. The focus was on the government’s measures to recover 1MDB assets and the financing of RM9.456 billion in the company’s debts.

Additionally, during the November 5 proceedings concerning the Inland Revenue Board’s (IRB) management of accounts receivable, the PAC received testimonies from Johan and IRB chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin. The proceedings are set to continue in the third week of November.

Mas Ermieyati also noted that the committee presented a follow-up report on the Ministry of Finance (Incorporated) and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry concerning the PAC report’s recommendations on Felcra Berhad today. The public can access the details of actions taken by the Ministry of Finance and FELCRA regarding these recommendations, which were initially presented on June 26, 2024.

Furt
hermore, Mas Ermieyati disclosed that the PAC is scheduled to present a 278-page report on the National Professors Council under the Prime Minister’s Department tomorrow, based on proceedings held on August 1.
