Kangar: The federal government has committed over RM17.19 million this year for the allowances of imams, bilals, siaks, takmir teachers, and Al-Quran and Fardu Ain (KAFA) teachers in Perlis. This substantial allocation underscores the government's recognition of the essential roles these religious figures play within the community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the allocation was officially handed over by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general, Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, to the Perlis Federal Development Office director, Maznah Musa. The ceremonial handover, featuring a mock cheque, was part of the Perlis State-level Iftar Ramadan MADANI (IRAMA) 2026 event. The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
During the event, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin addressed attendees, expressing support for the 'Rakan Masjid' initiative. This initiative, centrally implemented, aims to strengthen the bond between youths and mosque institutions. He emphasized that mosques serve beyond their primary role as places of worship, acting as hubs for character building, leadership development, and nurturing noble societal values.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin highlighted the importance of guiding youths to perceive mosques as centers of learning and brotherhood among Muslims. He voiced optimism that if the 'Rakan Masjid' initiative is extended to Perlis, it could cultivate a generation that cherishes mosques, is knowledgeable, morally upright, and becomes a unifying force for the welfare of the ummah.
