Kota bharu: More than 51,000 recipients of assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) in Kelantan are currently active, said state director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh. He stated that the figure encompasses eight assistance schemes, including aid for children and senior citizens, with an allocation of RM282 million last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, among the largest groups of aid recipients in Kelantan are those receiving allowances for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) who are employed, as well as assistance for PWDs who are unable to work. The JKM assistance is cumulative, and cases removed from the list of recipients involve individuals who have surpassed the poverty line or have passed away.
Che Samsuzuki elaborated that, last year alone, the department received nearly 20,000 new applications, averaging about 1,500 to 1,600 applicants per district. These new applications must go through several procedures in accordance with the stipulated conditions and will be assessed by department officers. The districts with the highest number of aid recipients in the state are Kota Bharu, Tumpat, and Pasir Mas.
