Kuala lumpur: More than 4,000 individuals have been fined RM2,000 each for littering and ordered to perform up to 12 hours of community service, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said. The compounds, issued by the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), reflect the government's stance on public hygiene.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, SWCorp is fully committed to enforcing these regulations. "We have issued compounds to more than 4,000 litterbugs," Nga said during a preview of the ASEAN Real Estate Conference (AREC) and the 25th International Architecture, Interior Design, and Building Exhibition (ARCHIDEX) 2026. Each offender is also required to undertake tasks such as sweeping roads, cleaning drains, and performing other cleaning duties as part of their community service.
Nga emphasized that the government intends to continue its strict enforcement of cleanliness laws without compromise. The upcoming ARCHIDEX 2026 and AREC 2026 are set to take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from July 29 to August 1. The events aim to provide a platform for policymakers and industry leaders to discuss global challenges and explore solutions that can be adapted at the local level.
