Over 369,000 Students Engage in Nationwide Safe Internet Campaign

Kuala lumpur: Over 369,000 students have participated in the 2025 Safe Internet Campaign as of November 30. The campaign has been implemented in 8,462 schools across the country, as stated by Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin. He emphasized that the initiative will persist into the following year to continue safeguarding students and increasing awareness of online dangers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the campaign, which was initiated in January, is a significant effort to educate the public on online safety. It covers essential topics such as the use of strong passwords, and the identification of scams, deepfakes, and misinformation. The initiative not only spreads awareness but also offers training modules, learning materials, and face-to-face sessions with schools, local communities, and government agencies. This comprehensive approach ensures that all societal segments, including teachers, parents, students, and the public, grasp digital risks and understand how to shield themselves.

Speaking at the state-level campaign launch at the Taman Tamadun Islam Convention Centre, Nik Kamaruzaman highlighted the campaign's impact in Terengganu. The state has empowered students from 435 schools, marking a notable achievement and demonstrating the state's dedication to prioritizing cyber safety in education. A total of 14,351 students engaged in workshops, talks, and interactive activities, showcasing increased public awareness and establishing Terengganu as a leading state in digital safety education.

He expressed hope that this initiative would lead to more digital literacy programs involving parents, youth, village communities, mosques, and both government and private agencies. The goal is to create a safer, more responsible, and ethical digital environment for future generations.

In addition, Dr. Quek Soh Theng, a teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1, underscored the importance of raising awareness about internet safety and cyberbullying. She noted that the community previously had limited exposure to these issues, leaving them susceptible to various online risks. Dr. Quek advocated for ongoing initiatives to foster a more ethical and vigilant generation of internet users.
