Melaka: The three-day state-level National Sports Day (HSN) celebration here, beginning tomorrow, will be held across various levels of government and private agencies, schools, and communities in three districts, with the targeted involvement of 359,000 participants.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Datuk VP Shanmugam announced that Jasin has been selected to host the Melaka-level HSN this year, with Dataran Orang Kampung Merlimau chosen as the main location for the celebration on Saturday. He revealed that 35 sports activities, including traditional sports like konda kondi, dam aji, galah panjang, tuju tin, boling kelapa, MADANI run, jalan santai, and Muay Thai, will be contested at Dataran Orang Kampung Merlimau.

“For Saturday, an estimated 10,000 participants will be involved in 35 sports events and we hope it will become a platform for introducing traditional games to the younger generation,” Shanmugam stated. He further added that throughout the three-day Melaka-level HSN, over 300 primary and secondary schools, with the participation of between 150,000 and 180,000 students and teachers, will engage in aerobics exercises in their respective schools.

Shanmugam made these remarks after the ‘Bicara Santai Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat’ (WRUR) session in conjunction with the state-level HSN celebration, which was also attended by Melaka Youth and Sports Department director Zailani Siran. Additionally, he mentioned that for the Melaka Tengah district, the HSN celebration will be held at Mahkota Parade, Bana Hilir, while in Alor Gajah, it will be held at Felcra Ramuan Cina.
