Kelantan: The Public Works Department (JKR) has repaired over 31,180 square metres of potholes on federal and state roads in Kelantan since January. State JKR director Nik Soh Yaacoub revealed that 21,580 square metres involved federal roads, while 9,600 square metres covered state roads.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, immediate action is taken upon receiving reports of potholes, with repairs carried out within 24 hours to prevent any incidents. This proactive approach follows a stern warning from Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to road maintenance concessionaires to fulfill their responsibilities and avert fatal accidents. This warning was prompted by a tragic incident on March 21, where two siblings lost their lives on Jalan Sengkang-Felda Inas-Bandar Tenggara in Johor.
Nanta emphasized that JKR’s asset maintenance policy mandates federal road concessionaires to perform temporary patching within a day when road damage is reported and to complete permanent repairs within three days. He also mentioned that extensive repairs require prior budget approval, which is managed annually and in phases.
