Over 169,000 SPM School Leavers Secure IPTA Places Through UPUOnline

Kuala lumpur: A total of 169,803 students who sat for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination have been offered places at public higher education institutions (IPTA) through UPUOnline. The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) announced that these offers include 91,357 candidates accepted into public universities, 60,947 into polytechnics, 15,844 into community colleges, and 1,655 into institutions under the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Higher Education Division.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MOHE reported receiving 235,480 eligible applications from SPM school leavers through UPUOnline this year. The intake included 363 programmes, consisting of 41 certificate programmes, 57 foundation programmes, 264 diploma programmes, and one bachelor's degree programme. Admissions were conducted based on the meritocracy principle, ranking candidates by their merit scores from highest to lowest.

MOHE also announced special pathways for 701 persons with disabilities, 310 Orang Asli candidates, 179 athletes, 10,499 candidates from the B40 group, and 65 candidates from institutions under the Social Welfare Department (JKM). This year marks the first time all academic programmes are accessible to persons with disabilities, aiming to enhance inclusivity and accessibility in higher education.

Furthermore, the ministry offered places to students with excellent results of 8As and above, emphasizing the government's dedication to supporting high-achieving students in their educational pursuits. For candidates who did not receive offers, appeals can be submitted through UPUOnline until 5 pm on May 31, 2026. MOHE extended congratulations to successful candidates and encouraged them to take full advantage of the opportunity to advance their studies.
