Oriental Holdings Bhd to Acquire Three Hotels in Malaysia for Repositioning Under The Ascott

Kuala lumpur: Oriental Holdings Bhd (OHB) and its subsidiaries are set to acquire Bayview Beach Resort Penang, Bayview Hotel Georgetown, and Bayview Hotel Langkawi.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the three hotels will undergo repositioning under the management of The Ascott Ltd, a hospitality company currently appointed by the existing hotel owners.

The acquisition of Bayview Hotel Georgetown will also include Wisma Boon Siew, an adjoining 15-storey building that comprises an office tower, two showrooms, and car parking bays. Upon completion, OHB Group will assume ownership of the three hotels, with Ascott continuing as the operator and manager. The acquisitions are pending approval from OHB’s shareholders at an Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, with the transaction expected to complete thereafter.

OHB indicated that the three hotels would be aligned with distinct brands within Ascott’s portfolio, each catering to specific traveller segments. Renovations are slated to begin in 2026, with the relaunch planned for the first half of 2028.

Adrian Wong, Chief Financial Officer of OHB, stated that subject to shareholder approval, the proposed acquisition is a significant step toward bolstering OHB Group’s presence in Malaysia’s hospitality sector. Once completed, this acquisition will expand their hotel portfolio in the country from one to four properties and grow their overall portfolio from seven to ten. He added that the addition of these hotels would enhance the group’s recurring income base, provide greater geographical diversification, and broaden their presence across key tourist destinations in Pulau Pinang and Kedah.
