Accra:Orang Asli communities in rural areas are hopeful that Budget 2027, to be presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on October 9, will address their housing needs, particularly for families still residing in homes constructed many years ago.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Apek Asud, chairman of the Kampung Tendrik Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee, noted that some houses, built over two decades ago, have deteriorated due to age and weather conditions. The damage to these homes includes issues with roofs, zinc sheets, and wooden structures, which require attention for the safety of the residents.
Apek Asud emphasized the need for government allocations to repair or construct new homes for families in need, as many of the existing houses have become increasingly dilapidated.
Kampung Tendrik resident Atar Pedik, aged 50, shared his personal experience, explaining that his house, made from timber planks and bamboo, has become too cramped to accommodate his growing family. This has resulted in some of his children, who now have families of their own, living separately. He expressed his hope for a stronger and more comfortable home in the future.
