Optimise Use Of Modern Technology, Melaka CM Tells Agropreneurs

Melaka: Entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, particularly downstream product players, have been urged to optimise the use of modern technology to enhance productivity, quality, and marketability of their produce. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh highlighted the significance of adopting technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to modernise agricultural operations and serve as catalysts for the development of more competitive downstream products.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these technologies enable production processes to be automated, improving efficiency, reducing labour costs, and increasing output. During a Ziarah Ikon Usahawan Gadek: Agrofarm Sahabat Gadek Enterprise activity in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat programme for the Gadek state constituency, Ab Rauf noted that new technologies introduced in the Gadek area can further enhance marketability. He emphasised that in tilapia farming, IoT and AI can automate tasks such as feeding, water level, and pH level control, eliminating the need for close supervision.

Ab Rauf further stated that producing quality basic products through modern technology must be complemented by the development of downstream products to enhance value and competitiveness in the market. Proper promotion of these technologies could lead to better marketability of goods, particularly in processing, packaging, and branding sectors.

The state government is committed to supporting entrepreneurs through guidance programmes and mentor-mentee initiatives. This support aims to help entrepreneurs adapt to technology and expand their businesses to higher levels. Ab Rauf emphasised the importance of guiding, educating, and assisting entrepreneurs so that the introduced technology can serve as a reference for the younger generation venturing into modern agriculture, ultimately strengthening the national agri-food ecosystem.
